Since the start of the barbaric full scale invasion against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the lives of countless people have been abruptly and irreversibly disrupted. In such difficult times, when a sovereign country is fighting for its right to exist against an aggressor, we at AVP e.V. have made it our mission to provide help where it is most urgently needed. Thanks to our partnership with the American NGO United Help Ukraine (UHU) and the support of the City of Düsseldorf as part of the UkraineHilfe Düsseldorf project, we were able to take a significant step in our humanitarian aid efforts during the last year. Since the start of the project in October 2023, over 40 tons of in-kind donations worth over 150,000 euros have been collected and sent to Ukraine thanks to numerous generous supporters.
On February 24, 2024, marking the second year since the start of the war, we held a special commemorative event to reaffirm our continued support for Ukraine and share the successes of our aid projects. The event brought together members of our NGO, the Ukrainian community, volunteers, partner organizations and representatives from the city of Düsseldorf. Highlights included a presentation on the developments and successes of the “UkraineHilfe Düsseldorf” project and contributions from our partners, including a video message from Washington, USA by Maryna Baydyuk, Chairwoman of UHU. Young students from our Alpha educational center, led by Ukrainian artist Peter Kozlowski, honored the anniversary with a specially prepared art exhibition. Musical accompaniment of Ukrainian folk music and a buffet with Ukrainian cuisine rounded off the event, which was attended by around 40 to 45 people.
The sovereignty of Ukraine and the suffering of its people under the ruthless attack of the imperialist aggressor must never be forgotten. It is our moral obligation to show solidarity and do everything in our power to alleviate this unjust suffering. AVP e.V. stands firmly by the side of Ukraine, driven by the hope that the war will end soon. Together we are strong for freedom and peace.
